PRINCIPALS

PETER KNEPELL, Ph.D.

Founder and president of Peak Quality Services. He has over 25 years of teaching and consulting experience in business, industry, and government. Over the years he established a broad customer base for Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, and Design for Six Sigma. He guided implementation strategies for manufacturing, transactional, and healthcare organizations. He is widely published, especially related to his quality improvement work with medical device and pharmaceutical industries. He co-authored the book, Simulation Validation, and contributed to the text, Understanding Industrial Designed Experiments. Pete was recognized as a Certified Quality Engineer by the American Society for Quality. A graduate of the US Air Force Academy, he received a doctorate degree from Cornell University in Operations Research with a minor in Business Management.

Richard Beaver

Vice President for Quality and Safety Officer of Heritage Valley Heath System. He is a certified Master Black Belt with over 11 years of experience in Six Sigma Business Strategies. Rick previously served as the leader of Operational Excellence and Quality for Nova Chemicals, Inc. Prior to working at Nova, he was employed by Sony as the leader of Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering and Maintenance. In both positions, Rick developed an expertise in Six Sigma and other continuous improvement techniques that he is now applying at Heritage Valley Health System resulting in documented improvements in clinical care, patient satisfaction, employee safety and retention, and financial growth. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 and sharpened his leadership skills at the Center for Creative Leadership.

Daniel Brooks, M.D.

Chief Medical Officer of Heritage Valley Health System. He has 32 years of clinical experience in surgery and is board certified in general and thoracic surgery. Prior to his current position, Dr. Brooks served as a full-time faculty person, chaired the department of general surgery at a community-based academic health center, and practiced surgery in a private practice setting. He also served as the founding board chairman of a physician owned HMO, organized a multi-hospital integrated delivery system, and worked closely with Health Plans on matters of clinical quality and utilization. Dr. Brooks has consulted nationally in the areas of strategic planning, clinical quality, and clinical responses to managed care. In his current role, he is responsible for clinical quality, medical staff, postgraduate training programs, and clinical planning for the health system.

Lisa Reagan

Close to 20 years of teaching and consulting experience in the areas of applied statistics, design of experiments, and Six Sigma. She spent 13 years with Texas Instruments where she developed and delivered training internally and externally through the TI Learning Institute, provided extensive statistical consulting and mentoring, and was instrumental in deploying applied statistical methods throughout the corporation. Lisa served as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt and received the Technical Excellence and Quality Excellence Awards from Texas Instruments. As a consultant to non-manufacturing clients, she guided Six Sigma projects in: customer call center performance, contract development cycle time, HR database accuracy, logistics center responsiveness, and payroll accuracy. She published five technical papers and was a contributor to the following textbooks: Understanding Industrial Designed Experiments; Basic Statistics: Tools for Continuous Improvement; and Knowledge Based Management. Lisa earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Bowling Green State University and a M.S. in Statistics from the University of Texas at Dallas.

STEPHEN C. HOYLE, Ph.D.

Close to 25 years of teaching and consulting experience in the areas of Six Sigma and operations research. He was a tenure professor and deputy department head at the US Air Force Academy. He then joined the Quality Improvement Services group at Logicon RDA and consulted with a wide range of government and industry organizations. Steve received a national award for a drug interdiction model that he created for the US Customs Service. He is also recognized for his expertise in modeling and optimizing transportation systems and scheduling of natural gas pipelines. He continues that work as the president and founder of Peak Energy Solutions, Inc. In the Six Sigma arena, he assisted several firms with the implementation of Lean Sigma. Those firms have many facilities in the US, Europe and Asia. A graduate of the US Air Force Academy, he earned a M.S. in Systems Engineering from UCLA and a doctorate in Operations Research from Stanford University.
